Phase 1 Expansion

Our Dental Services

Guiding Proper Growth
for a Healthier Smile

At The Center For Dental Healing, we specialize in Phase 1 Expansion, a proactive orthodontic treatment designed to address the growth and development of a child’s jaw and teeth. By intervening early, Phase 1 Expansion promotes proper alignment, creates space for permanent teeth, and helps avoid complex orthodontic issues later in life.

The Phase 1 Expansion Process

Consultation & Evaluation

We assess your child’s jaw development and oral health to determine if Phase 1 Expansion is needed.

Custom Treatment Plan

A personalized plan is created, which may include the use of expanders or other orthodontic appliances.

Monitoring Growth

We regularly monitor your child’s progress to ensure proper jaw and dental alignment as they grow.

Transition to Phase 2

Once Phase 1 is complete, we evaluate the need for Phase 2 orthodontics, which focuses on aligning permanent teeth.

What Is Phase 1 Expansion?

Phase 1 Expansion, also known as early interceptive orthodontics, focuses on guiding the development of a child’s jaw and teeth between the ages of 6 and 10. The treatment involves the use of dental appliances like expanders to gently widen the upper jaw, ensuring there is enough space for permanent teeth to erupt correctly. It is typically performed while the jaw is still growing, making it an effective and non-invasive solution for many orthodontic concerns.

When Is Phase 1 Expansion Recommended?

Phase 1 Expansion is ideal for children who:

  • Have early signs of crowded or misaligned teeth.
  • Experience difficulty chewing, biting, or speaking.
  • Show signs of a narrow upper jaw or crossbite.
  • Have habits like thumb sucking or mouth breathing.
  • Need to create space for erupting permanent teeth.

The Benefits of Phase 1 Expansion

Creates Space for Permanent Teeth

Prevents crowding and reduces the need for tooth extractions in the future.

Guides Jaw Development

Ensures proper alignment of the upper and lower jaws, promoting balanced growth.

Improves Oral Function

Enhances chewing, speaking, and breathing by optimizing the structure of the jaw and teeth.

Reduces Need for Future Treatments

Minimizes the likelihood of more invasive orthodontic procedures, such as braces or surgery, in adolescence.

Corrects Habits Early

Addresses thumb sucking, mouth breathing, and other habits that can affect jaw and dental development.

Boosts Confidence

Provides children with a healthier, more symmetrical smile as they grow.
